    2–3 minutes

The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) Board of School Trustees held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

At the meeting, the Board approved the renewal of five contracts with Early Learning providers, as part of MCCSC’s 2023 Referendum to expand 4-year-old Pre-K and 3-year-old Preschool programming. Partner providers include the Bloomington Center for Global Children, Bloomington Developmental Learning Center, Compass Early Learning Center, Penny Lane Child Care, and Indiana University Bloomington (Campus Children’s Center and Hoosier Courts Nursery School).

The 2023 Referendum offers free or highly discounted Early Learning tuition to families for the 4-year-old Pre-K and 3-year-old Preschool programs, and families can choose to attend MCCSC or partner provider programs.

Assistant Superintendent Alexis Harmon gave a presentation on professional learning, as part of MCCSC’s 2025 Strategic Plan. Harmon shared strategies used by teachers and staff to increase their knowledge and skills to improve student learning. Harmon emphasized that MCCSC teachers and staff are instrumental in leading professional learning sessions and workshops to share their best practices and expertise within MCCSC.

MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston shared that individuals can still sign up to join MCCSC’s Redistricting Study Commission by March 28. Information can be found online at mccsc.edu/redistricting.

Winston also extended gratitude to former Board Member Brandon Shurr for his service representing District 7, following his departure from the Board. MCCSC announced the District 7 vacancy on Board of School Trustees and posted the application on Monday, March 24.

“The Monroe County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees and I extend sincere gratitude to Mr. Brandon Shurr for his dedication and service to the students, families, staff, and our community.” said Winston. “During his nearly six years as a Board of School Trustee, Mr. Shurr held the position of vice president in 2021, and president for 2022 and most of 2023. He was a Board of School Trustee member during the development of the 2021 to 2025 strategic plan and the passage of the 2022 and the 2023 referenda. We greatly appreciate his contributions to our school community.”
