Three Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) high schools placed in the top 25 of 490 ranked Indiana high schools in the 2026-27 Best High Schools rankings from U.S. News & World Report, putting them in the state’s top 5% among ranked schools. The schools are Bloomington High School South (#16), The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship (#20), and Bloomington High School North (#23).
“We are pleased to see our high schools recognized for their dedication to students,” said MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston. “While each of our high schools serves a unique student body and offers unique strengths, they have a shared commitment: Our teachers, staff, and school leaders put individual student success first. Meeting individual student needs is paramount. That is what matters to our students and families, and that is what I am most proud of in every one of our schools.”
The 2026-27 Best High Schools national rankings identify top public schools based on key performance indicators including student achievement on state-required assessments, strong graduation rates and college readiness measures. Schools are also evaluated on how effectively they serve all students.
MCCSC’s high school graduation rate is approximately 96% and about 86% of graduates are employed or enrolled in Indiana one year after graduation, according to Indiana Department of Education statistics. High schools offer students a well-rounded education with opportunities to take advanced coursework and choose from 34 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and more than 40 dual credit courses. They can also complete the Indiana College Core, a block of 30 credits that transfers to all Indiana public colleges and universities and some private ones. All high school students also have access to the Hoosier Hills Career Center, where they can earn industry-recognized certifications.
“We are proud of our schools for being recognized, and I believe that all of our schools offer some of the best opportunities in the state,” said Eric Gilpin, MCCSC director of secondary education. “Thank you to our principals, teachers, counselors and coaches who are creating great experiences for our students and helping to prepare them for their futures.”
