New spaces in Bloomington North Athletics and Parking Improvement Project now open for use
Bloomington High School North Boys soccer players and school leadership cut the ribbon on their new soccer field with MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston, the MCCSC Board of School Trustees, MCCSC leadership, and project partners.
The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Bloomington High School North’s (BHSN) new soccer field on Monday, August 17 before the Boys Junior Varsity soccer match. The ceremony marked the opening of the new facilities in the Bloomington North Athletics and Parking Improvement Project. The project includes new track and field throwing facilities, an athletic facilities building with visitor locker rooms, a synthetic turf soccer field, batting cages, a concessions area, and a new parking lot.
The project is part of the MCCSC Designing and Building to Sustain Excellence initiative, launched by MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston to enhance academic, athletic, and performing arts spaces and make upgrades in technology, transportation, and safety across the school corporation.
“Our students deserve this kind of commitment for supporting their excellence in academics, and extracurriculars,” said Winston. “It is really important that there is clarity on how we pay for these kinds of investments. Bond-financed projects like this protect our day-to-day dollars, while investing in the future of our school corporation. High-quality facilities communicate school and community pride, attract students and families, and give students opportunities to learn and grow.”

“This project has been in the works for a long time, so I’m thrilled to see it come to fruition and have this ceremony today. The opportunity for our student-athletes to use this field will be enormous, and it will be used to benefit our children for years to come,” said Bloomington North Principal Matthew Stark. “I greatly appreciate the support from the Board, Dr. Winston, the Board of School Trustees, the school corporation, and the community to allow this to come together.”
The soccer field, like all other investments in the initiative, is funded through bond financing, which protects school corporation dollars that are dedicated to specific purposes:
- Zero MCCSC dollars reserved for teachers and learning were used (The Education Fund).
- Zero MCCSC dollars reserved for daily operations were used (The Operations Fund).
- Zero dollars reserved for voter-approved purposes were used (The Referendum Fund).
