MCCSC schools earn top state rankings in 2026 U.S. News and World Report

Teachers, staff, and community make MCCSC schools among the best in the state

The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) is pleased to celebrate its schools following the recent U.S. News & World report for 2026 Best Elementary and Middle Schools rankings that recognized two MCCSC schools in the top 25 in the state: Jackson Creek Middle School ranked #8 among Indiana’s middle schools, and Childs Elementary School ranked #9 among Indiana’s elementary schools. Additionally, Unionville Elementary School and University Elementary School both ranked within the top 50 elementary schools in the state, and Marlin Elementary School and Tri-North Middle School ranked within the top 6% statewide.

Students read and discuss a book together in Erika Peek’s class at Childs Elementary School. As an International Baccalaureate World School, Childs focuses on inquiry-based learning, and literature is used to prompt students’ questioning, critical thinking and discussion.

Earlier this school year, U.S. News & World Report released the 2025-26 Indiana high school rankings. MCCSC’s two large high schools, Bloomington High School South and Bloomington High School North, both ranked within the top 6% statewide.

Our teachers, staff, families, and community are what truly make MCCSC schools among the best in the state,” said MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston. “I am proud of the unique strengths each of our 23 schools brings to our community, and together we create an educational environment where every student can thrive.”
