Graduates prepared for many future paths

The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) celebrates the graduation of 829 students across its four high schools and career center during the 2025 commencement season. Graduates are prepared to embark on diverse career paths and post-secondary educational journeys.
Graduation Numbers by School:
- Bloomington High School South (BHSS): 413 graduates
- Bloomington High School North (BHSN): 368 graduates
- Bloomington Graduation School (BGS): 31 graduates
- Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship (ASE): 17 graduates
“As I celebrate my first commencement as superintendent, I am incredibly proud of what our Class of 2025 has accomplished,” said Superintendent Dr. Markay L. Winston. “The excellence of our teachers is directly reflected in how well-prepared our graduates are for their next chapters. As we remain committed to sustaining excellence in our schools, we look forward to seeing our students embark on their promising futures.”
The Class of 2025 has demonstrated academic distinction, with 266 MCCSC seniors earning spots on the honor roll. More than half graduated with honors: 428 graduates earned Academic Honors, while 19 received Technical Honors recognition.
Graduates are well-prepared for their post-secondary futures. They have earned approximately $12.6 million in scholarships and completed 3,016 dual credits, giving them a head start on their college education. 148 students earned industry-recognized certifications or certificates through the Hoosier Hills Career Center, including Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Home Health Aide, SERVSafe, OSHA, Dementia Care, and certificates (CTs) in Culinarian, EMT, Firefighter, Structural Welding, and others. 144 students plan to directly enter the workforce after graduation.
In the 2024-25 school year, students and graduates have achieved national and statewide recognition across academics, arts, and athletics. Just a few highlights include: BHSS students winning first place nationally in a STEM competition with a $125,000 prize; four MCCSC students earning Scholastic Art & Writing National Medals; ASE students placing fifth in a statewide computer science competition; BHSS Choir ranking 3rd in the state and BHSN Band ranking 5th in Indiana State School Music Association finals; BHSN Scholastic Esports Program achieving state runner-up at the Indiana High School Esports Network finals; and BHSN Boys Indoor Track and Cross Country claiming state championships.
Individual graduates also showcase the diverse pathways available through MCCSC schools. Students like Danny Thomas, winner of a 2025 Superintendent’s Excellence Award, completed coursework through both the Bloomington Graduation School and Hoosier Hills Career Center while working full-time as a welder.
“My grandfather passed away six or so years ago now, and this is my way of feeling like I’ve made him proud,” Thomas shared, reflecting on his passion for welding and plans to travel the country building skyscrapers.
The Class of 2025 also includes students pursuing post-secondary education, like BHSS graduate Bonnie Dong, who earned a full ride to Stanford University for computer engineering.
Junior Yena Park achieved a perfect ACT score of 36, an accomplishment earned by less than one quarter of one percent of all test takers. Park’s plans include attending an Ivy League university and eventually pursuing a medical degree.
Graduate Sean Borneman, who developed and presented a quantum algorithm at an international quantum computing conference, will attend Carnegie Mellon University with a major in physics and minor in AI.
These graduates are just a few examples of the Class of 2025. The Monroe County Community School Corporation congratulates all 829 graduates and wishes them continued success in their many pathways. Graduation ceremony information and livestream links can be found at mccsc.edu/graduation.
