The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) announced today that Chief Financial Officer (CFO) John Kenny has decided to retire from his position, effective June 30, 2025. Kenny will continue in his role until his retirement, and MCCSC will immediately begin a search to identify Kenny’s successor.
Kenny has served as CFO for MCCSC since 2017. During his eight-year tenure with the corporation, Kenny was instrumental in securing several bond funding projects to support operational needs in facilities projects and renovations, solar energy projects, and athletic facilities. He played a key role in MCCSC Referendum efforts in 2022 and 2023, and he also oversaw the allocation and management of federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) funds. Most recently, Kenny supported the development of MCCSC’s 2-Year Strategy to Achieve Financial Balance.
“Throughout his tenure at MCCSC, John has streamlined our business operations and identified many operational efficiencies, resulting in meaningful cost savings over the years,” said MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston. “Over the past nine months, his institutional knowledge and fiscal oversight has been especially valuable as we navigate declining student enrollment and increasing expenses. I am indebted to John for his consistent authenticity and transparency in sharing the corporation’s financial landscape.”
Kenny has held financial leadership roles for more than three decades. Before joining MCCSC, Kenny served as the Executive Director of Finance for the Indiana University Alumni Association, where he managed an $11 million annual budget and $19 million in investments. He previously held a range of financial leadership roles across the government, education, and non-profit sectors, including Director of Finance at Centerstone of Indiana and Controller at Dunn Mental Health Center. In addition, Kenny served as Controller for the City of Richmond, Indiana, where he managed financial operations for a $100 million budget.
Until his retirement, Kenny will work closely with MCCSC administration and the Board of School Trustees to ensure a smooth transition.
