Families of 8th grade students encouraged to attend
The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) will host “Everything You Need to Know About Indiana’s New High School Diploma” on Thursday, January 23, to provide important information to families and caregivers about the new diploma rule, approved by the Indiana State Board of Education (SBOE) in December 2024. The event is open to families from all Indiana schools, and will be held from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at Jackson Creek Middle School, 3980 S. Sare Rd. in Bloomington.
Rebekah Frazer, School Counseling Specialist at the Indiana Department of Education, will share information and answer questions about the new diploma requirements. Indiana’s new diploma will be in effect beginning with the class of 2029, or current 8th grade students who will enter 9th grade in the 2025-26 school year.

The changes to the Indiana diploma include increased flexibility in core content and electives, and the introduction of readiness seals that allow students to earn “honors” or “honors plus” seals to align with their goals in: employment, college enrollment, or military enlistment. The readiness seals are also designed to allow students to update their graduation plans if their original interests and goals change. Information about the final high school diploma rule can be found on the Department of Education website.
The event is part of MCCSC’s Parent University event series to inform families and caregivers of important topics in education. Questions can be submitted to be answered at the event at www.mccsc.edu/parentu. The event will not be livestreamed but will be recorded and posted online. Questions about the event can be directed to ParentU@mccsc.edu.
